Walter Powell Sheppard

Walter Powell Sheppard, 81 of Kingsland, Georgia passed away on January 1, 2026 after a lengthy illness.

He was preceded in death by his parents Walter Dan and Ella Sheppard of Atkinson, Georgia; his sisters Mary, Betty, Evelyn and his brothers JD and Bobby.

He is survived by his son, Tony Sheppard (Jennifer) of Kingsland, Georgia and daughter Michelle Mort (Jim) of Woodbine, Georgia.

He was the proud grandfather to Cameron Sheppard (Tiffany) of Woodbine, Georgia; Morgan Gardell (Cameron) of Kingsland, Georgia; Summer Thrash (JD) of Woodbine, Georgia. He also had 5 great grandchildren, Brodie Sheppard, Beau Sheppard, Harper Sheppard, Josie Gardell and Olive Gardell; along with many nieces and nephews.

Walter was a huge outdoorsman and supporter of wildlife conservation. He managed the Satilla Lodge hunting club since 1992. He also owned Cumberland Transport after many years of working for Jimmy Middleton at the same business.

He had a charitable spirit and never hesitated to help anyone in need. He found joy in making those around him happy. He always had a way of making those around him feel important and appreciated. His quick wit and sense of humor was his characteristic trait that never faded even in his final days.

A memorial service will be held at 6pm on Wednesday, January 7, 2026 at Coastal Camden Funeral Home in Kingsland, Georgia. Walter will be loved, cherished and missed terribly by his family and friends. He was one of a kind.
