William “Carroll” Dixon, Sr. was born on Thanksgiving Day, November 29, 1934. He was born in Grady County, Reno, GA to the late Calvin John Dixon and the late Annie Harrison Dixon. He died on Sunday, January 26, 2014. Mr. Dixon was also preceded in death by his brothers, Murray, Forcie, Rudolph, and Robert Dixon; sister, Marguerite Dixon Hardin and son, William “Bill” Dixon.
Mr. Dixon attended GA Tech and served his country in the U.S. Navy from 1952-1955. He was a licensed real estate agent. Mr. Dixon was a former member and commander of the Sons of the Confederacy, as well as, the Local Southern Party. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Cairo, GA. Mr. Dixon owned Carroll Dixon Construction Company where he was known as a problem solver for different types of construction work. In addition, he was the former franchise holder for American Buildings and Butler Builders. Carroll was a special person who was always happy and enjoyed being the life of the party. He was a very friendly and giving person who never met a stranger. Carroll wanted everyone to set high goals and was a mentor to others. He was a proud man who loved his family and showed them many times over through his kind acts of love. Further, he enjoyed helping folks who had shown great love towards his family. Carroll was a visionary. He invented several things. He loved animals, especially his chickens and always said that dogs and little kids loved him. He tried so hard to correct his diabetic condition by walking 4 miles every day and by eating correctly and wanted everyone else to do the same so that they would live longer.
His happy voice, boisterous singing, and spirited yodeling will be missed by his family and friends. Above all, Carroll will be missed for all his wonderful stories of days gone by.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory, his loving wife of 56 years, Adelia Boyd Dixon; daughter and son-in-law, Katrina and Steve Benton; son and daughter-in-law, Boyd and Sharon Dixon; daughter-in-law, Judith Wilson Dixon; 9 grandchildren, Shaun Benton (Suzanne), Jason Benton (Diana), Gary Walker (Holly), Sarah Davis (Lance), Ben Dixon (Tracey), Kady Dixon, Jake Dixon (Kayla), Coby Dixon, Ryan Dixon; 13 great-grandchildren; sisters and brother-in-law, Myrtle Powers, Elizabeth Gainey (Mack) ; brother and sister-in-law, Max Joel Dixon(Jeannie); sisters-in-law, Nelda Dixon, Mary Catherine Boyd Ivey (Robert); numerous nieces and nephews; special family friends, Paul Page, Jr. and Dawn Moriarty.
Funeral services for Mr. Carroll William Dixon, Sr. will be held on Thursday, January 30, 2014 at 2pm in the chapel of Heritage Funeral Home. Reverend John Nance and Reverend Charles Killingsworth will officiate. Interment will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery. Friends may visit the family from noon until the service hour on Thursday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Brightmoor Hospice at 3247 Newnan Rd.
