William Michael (Mike) Engel entered the presence of the Lord on Tuesday, November 15th, 2016.

Mike was born in Sutton, West Virginia on June 4, 1945 to the late William Karl Engel and Thelma Inez Hartley. He moved to Jacksonville, Florida, where he graduated from Paxson High School in 1963. Mike also received an associate’s degree in forestry from Lake City College in 1964. Mike was an employee of the Gilman Paper Co. for 36 years and the founder of Superior Septic Tank Service. As a Deacon at Kingsland First Baptist Church, Mike enjoyed worshipping and serving his church family. Mike was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather and lived his faith and shared it with others. Mike’s love of the outdoors and the beauty of God’s creation prompted him to establish the Brushy Fork Lodge in West Virginia. Mike opened that home to friends and family alike. As the familiar song states, Mike considered West Virginia to be “almost heaven”. Let’s rejoice for Mike as he receives his full reward.

He is survived by his best friend, soul mate and wife of 43 years, Laquita; his three sons, Will (Shannon), Eric (Sandy) and Josh (Ashley); his seven grandchildren, Ellen, Anna, Michael, Louisa, Caleb, Nicole and Bailey; and his sidekick, Abby – “the little black dog”.

Calling hours for Mr. Engel will be from 6 pm to 8 pm Friday, November 18th, 2016 at Coastal Camden Funeral Home in Kingsland, Georgia. A memorial service will be held at 3 pm Saturday, November 19th, 2016 in the new sanctuary of the Kingsland First Baptist Church / 295 E. Chester Street Kingsland, GA. Honorary pallbearers: Mike Brazell, Henry Buchanan, James Roberson, Gene Hollingsworth and Rev. Vernon Dillingham.
