William Joseph Stapp, III , age 66, of Woodbine passed away Thursday, April 3rd, 2014 at the Southeast Georgia Health System in Brunswick, GA.
Mr. Stapp was born on November 19th, 1947 in Fort Worth, Texas. He is the son of the late William Joseph and Alta Mae Fitzgerald Stapp, Jr.
Mr. Stapp was a Senior Chief in the US Navy, with 26 years of faithful service. During his Navy career, Mr. Stepp served aboard the USS Orleck, the USS Tripoli and he was later apart of the capsule recovery crew of the USS Hornet during Apollo 11 and 12 space missions. Mr. Stapp was a movie member in the Herman Wouk epic ‘The Winds of War.”
In his later years in St. Marys, he had a dog walking business and was a fixture in the Huddle House in St. Marys. He will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved him best.
Mr. Stapp is survived by his wife, Sharyn Kettman-Stapp; and his son, William Stapp, IV (Mary) of Baker, Florida.
A memorial service will be held at 10 AM on Thursday, April 10th, 2014 at the Agape Christian Fellowship Church, 10600 Colerain Road in St. Marys, with Pastor Jonny Rogers presiding. Per Mr. Stapp’s wishes, he will be buried at sea with full military honors at a later date.
