William Strickland

August 31, 1931 — July 10, 2019

William L. (Bill) Strickland was born August 31, 1931 in Homerville, Clinch County, Georgia.  He passed away July 10, 2019 at his home in Waverly, Ga., he was surrounded by his beloved family.  He was preceded in death by his parents James L. Strickland and Beulah Sears Strickland, brothers Clyde, Hershel, Roy Strickland and a sister Vida Faye Strickland Carlson all of Homerville, Ga.  Grandson Robert Dillon Naves of Brunswick, Ga., his first wife Helen Perritt Altman of Waycross, Ga. and his beloved wife Aggie Strickland of Waverly, Ga.



Bill entered the Air Force at the age of 20.  His significant duties included Air Police Sqdn. and Air Base Group APO.  He received the Good Conduct Metal and the National Defense Service Metal.  He was honorably discharged on August 3, 1955.



Bill moved to Kingsland, Ga. and spent most of his life in the Kingsland and St. Mary’s, Ga area.  He worked at Gilman Paper Company until his retirement in 1990.   He worked in the Instrument Dept. and was also a Chemist in the Lab.



Upon his retirement he moved to Waverly, Ga. and lived on the river at Hickory Bluff.  He and his wife enjoyed this for many years.  Their home was always open to friends and family, many fishing, shrimping days and cook outs were enjoyed by all.  Due to health problems, they moved from the river.  The moved only a couple streets over where Bill continued his gardening he enjoyed so much.



Bill’s son Terry died a couple of weeks after he passed.  Bill is survived by two daughters Jan Strickland of Waycross, Ga. and Tonya (Mike) Holton of White Oak, Ga.  Step-son Mike Daskivich of San Antonio, Tx.  Granddaughters Nicole Gentry of Kingsland, Ga. and Jennifer (Derek) Dixon of Waycross, Ga.  Grandsons Terry Strickland of Jacksonville, Fla., Travis Strickland of Kingsland, Ga. and David Naves of Brunswick, Ga.  Great grandchildren, Tristin Dixon and Natalie Strickland.  He had many cousins, nieces, nephews and special cousins Blenda Doran and Ed Lockliear.



A memorial service will be held September 28, 2019 at 11:00am at Honey Creek Episcopal Church in Waverly, Ga.  Food will be served after the service in the church social hall.
