Yvonne Rainer

March 27, 1936 — October 3, 2024

Yvonne Peeples Rainer left this earthly home on October 3rd, 2024.  She passed through Heaven’s doors to be with the Eternal Light forever.  She was born to Eldred Wayne Peeples and Heloise Bass Peeples on March 27, 1936.  She was born in Kingsland, Georgia and other than a brief time when she resided in Atlanta, Georgia she lived her entire life in Kingsland.

Yvonne is preceded in death by her spouse of 64 years David L. Rainer, parents Eldred Wayne Peeples and Heloise Bass Peeples, sisters Trisha Peeples and Sara (Pug) Peeples.  Yvonne left two surviving sons:  David Lee Rainer, Jr. (Silvia) of Woodbine, Georgia and Alan Eldred Rainer (Janet) of Kingsland, Georgia and one granddaughter, Jennifer Rainer of Jacksonville, Florida.

Yvonne graduated from Camden County High School in 1954.  She briefly attended Florida State University but was homesick and soon returned to Kingsland. She always said she regretted that and wished she was tougher and stuck it out. But soon after returning home she gained employment with Eastern Airlines and was trained and briefly employed in Atlanta, Georgia. But the big city wasn’t right for Yvonne and soon transferred with Eastern to a job in Jacksonville at the old Imeson Airport. Which is a good thing as now she was in Kingsland and soon would meet her husband David. They were married on June 1, 1959 and enjoyed 64 years together.

After the birth of her first son, David, Yvonne left the work force to become a full time mother. This was her true calling as Yvonne was at her best when caring for people. She would drive her sons to and from various band and sporting events/practices after school for many years. She was also a Sunday School teacher during this time for many years at Kingsland First Methodist Church. As the church was only one block from her home she made sure her family was always there each Sunday sitting together in the same pew!

After David graduated from UGA in 1982 and Alan had finished his sophomore year at Auburn, Yvonne felt she needed more. She then was hired by the current Superintendent of Schools (her husband) as an assistant media specialist at the new Camden County Middle School in Kingsland, Georgia. She worked there for 27 years retiring in 2009. She loved that job! She met so many new kids and their parents in Camden due to the influx of new residents as the submarine base grew. She would love to run into former students at the store or the bank after they had grown up and married and had kids. She loved them all. But her favorite was her granddaughter Jennifer who would be seen often in the library helping her “Grammie” stamp all the library books. They could do that together for hours.

After she retired Yvonne and David would travel around the US and visit old friends and relatives –- but they would often be found in Alabama visiting relatives and attending University of Alabama football games. Yvonne went to a lot of games in Tuscaloosa, Auburn and Athens over the years to be with her husband and sons. People always asked who she pulled for and she said she just supported whichever team was the home team.

And when not away and Yvonne was in Kingsland she was typically helping her two sisters before they passed away in 2018 and 2019 and for the last 10 years was a dutiful and loving caregiver for her husband after his heart attack in 2013.

Yvonne was a Christian, a loving wife and mother, and was always helping others. In her quiet time she could be found planting flowers in her yard and feeding the birds and squirrels which brought her great joy and peace.
